In Umeå, the German DIY chain Bauhaus has opened its second store within five months in Sweden. It is the 23rd store to be opened by Bauhaus in the country and comprises 15 specialist departments on a retail area of 11 500 m. The store also includes a drive-in with a retail area of around 3 000 m and an indoor garden centre covering more than 1 600 m.
Umeå, located about 600 km north of the Swedish capital Stockholm and close to the Arctic Circle, is a city and business centre in the Swedish county of Västerbottens län. The population of over 80,000 has more than doubled in the past 70 years, making Umeå one of Sweden's fastest-growing cities. The average population age of 38 years is below the current Swedish average age of 41.2 years.
