Edra/Ghin launches DIY Platform

02.03.2017

The European DIY Retail Association/Global Home Improvement Network (Edra/Ghin) has launched a collaborative initiative known as the DIY Platform as a means of promoting better labour and environmental conditions in the global supply chain. The initiative will be taken forward by a core group of leading retailers and will be focused towards direct suppliers of manufactured consumer products in our key source countries, Edra/Ghin says. The retailers taking part in the DIY Platform include Groupe Adeo, Bunnings, Kingfisher and Obi.
The DIY Platform's aim is to allow retailers to come together to mutually recognise supplier audits, share best practices, and tackle emerging supply chain issues, such as poor factory performance, all of this, under the framework of a sector-wide set of principles on sustainable supply chains.
The group will also investigate the feasibility of a single DIY audit standard that could help retailers make substantial savings in social and environmental audits while at the same time generating greater improvements in sustainability practices throughout the entire home improvement supply chain.
The DIY Platform will also take part in advocacy, working with foreign governments, international institutions, NGOs and other stakeholders to improve the operating environment and demonstrate how the sector is delivering against the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
