First Homelux stores open in Romania

The first two stores of the new Romanian retail chain Homelux have just opened. The first one is located in Ploiesti, in premises that formerly housed a Praktiker store with a retail area of 10 000 m². The second one has been opened in Focsani with 5 000 m² in a former Praktiker location as well. Homelux retails 20 000 items in the categories of furniture, decorative products, carpets, lighting, home furnishings, household goods and appliances. An online shop is also available.
The chain is owned by Turkish businessman Omer Susli, who previously owned the Romanian Praktiker stores and sold them in 2017 to Kingfisher. He plans to open 20 stores in the next five years and expects to invest EUR 15 mio in each 10 000 m² store.
At the same time, the company is working on a concept with retail areas of 500 to 2 000 m². This format is intended for stores in shopping centres and malls, with the first outlet expected to open in Bucharest. "We want the Homelux stores to become a showcase for Romanian manufacturers," says Susli.
