Founded by Friedrich Hoppe at Heiligenhaus, near Düsseldorf, on 5 November 1952, Hoppe is today a globally active company with headquarters at Müstair in Switzerland. The company develops, produces and markets architectural ironmongery systems made of aluminium, stainless steel, plastics and brass. It has seen itself as European market leader in this field since the seventies.
Diversity of design is evident in Hoppe’s product portfolio.
Last year Hoppe celebrated 50 years in the business, after a company history characterised by expansion above all. Today the enterprise operates with a workforce of more than 3 000 in nine plants and marketing companies in Europe and the USA. The group’s total sales came to 217 mio euro in 2001.
It believes that the smooth transition from the first to the second generation has had a positive influence on the continuity of corporate policy. Friedrich Hoppe officially handed over management of the group to his two sons as long ago as 1992, though he did not withdraw from the operating business all of a sudden, but rather did so little by little. Indeed, the company founder continues to be involved in Hoppe Holding AG (an unquoted company, the shares of which are in family hands), as president of its board of directors, whereas the operational responsibility has been transferred to his two sons, Wolf and Christoph Hoppe, who are directors of equal rank in the holding company.
New: the lockable “Secu100” window handle.
Right from the very start the company’s line of action has been based on the principle that “creativity arises from consistently thinking contrary to the rules”. The results of this central idea are seen directly reflected in new products. The latest development is “Secu100”, the lockable 100 Nm casement fastener. This meets the requirements of the initial European standard, which means that it can be marketed in all EU countries. Currently available are two versions of the handle to match the London and Tokyo series. Other models will follow. Closed or tilted windows can be locked simply “at the touch of a button”, which is positioned on the lock. The big twist lever increases user comfort.
