Motip Dupli has been active in water-based spray paints in the DIY market under the Dupli-Color brand since 1986. At that time, the company reports, this was the first approach to environmentally friendly aerosol technology. They explain that this technology has been meticulously followed and permanently optimised for more than 35 years.
When the use of ozone as propellant for spray aerosols became illegal mid 1991, Motip Dupli, still Kurt Vogelsang GmbH at that time, had already been voluntarily using alternative propellants in all its spray paints for over five years. The Dupli-Color Aqua paint series was placed on the German market as paint aerosol brand under the slogan "For the love of the environment".
In 1998, technical developments enabled further optimisations which made the water-based paint spray cans even more environmentally friendly and at the same time also more user-friendly. However, according to information from the manufacturer, Dupli-Color remained largely alone on the European paint aerosol market with this solvent-reduced quality. Users weren't yet that far in their thinking to imagine that water in a paint spray can could achieve an effective and durable result, reports Motip Dupli.
After many technical variants and chemical trials, the next evolutionary stage of Dupli-Color Aqua was launched on the market in the year 2009. This series is not only greatly improved in terms of content, the company says, but also has convinced consumers through a successful marketing concept and has enormously increased sales figures. Together with the claim "Sprühlingsgefühle (play on words: spray + spring feelings) mit Dupli-Color Aqua" a DIY water-based spray paint equipped with only a ten per cent proportion of solvent was presented for the first time. It attracted attention with a subtle vanilla aroma and a haptic water drop on the facing. Motip Dupli remembers a very successful distribution in large-scale retail and specialist stores in Germany.
Today, ten years later, the latest and now third innovative stage of water-based spray paints is ready at the starting gates in the form of the…
