In the year 2001 French DIY retailers made 13.8 per cent of their sales on average in the garden category, which consequently increased in weighting by 0.7 per cent. Sanitary fittings and paint followed at 13 per cent. This range expanded as well, by 1.2 per cent to be exact, according to a study undertaken by the manufacturers’ association UNIBAL. The information it contains mentions wall and floor coverings as the biggest losers, with their weighting down by 4.4 per cent for a total sales contribution of 8.6 per cent.
