German DIY retailers in Europe: increasing consolidation

An increasing consolidation of locations among the German operators of DIY stores in Europe can be determined for the years between 1999 and 2017. The share of the top 30 operators increased between 1999 and 2007 from 70.5 per cent to 82.3 per cent, while the share of the non-top 30 operators has decreased. These figures have been established by the Dähne Verlag publishing house.
Furthermore, it can be noticed that the share of both the top 20 operators minus the top 10 and the share of the top 30 operators minus the top 20 has slightly declined in the last 18 years. As a result, the overall market in terms of location is distributed more strongly among the top 30, whereby mainly the top 10 operators profit from this.
