Ferm is one of the first companies to have imported power tools from China. Today the products are distributed far beyond the borders of Europe
The family company was founded in the Netherlands in 1965, since which time it has grown into an international distributor of power tools. It was 1988 when the company began to import electrical tools for DIYers from China. Today they are marketed both under the Ferm brand name and also under retailers' private labels in DIY stores, specialty stores, hypermarkets and supermarkets, in Europe as well as in Australia and Vietnam.
General manager Tineke Bakker-van Ingen demands high quality for the company's products. Consequently every one of these products is subjected to thorough testing and, besides working in close collaboration with testing agencies, the company has also introduced a quality system of its own. All the products come with a three year guarantee.
Since 1992 Ferm has had a subsidiary company in Shanghai. From here 45 employees carry out the entire purchasing operation. Another 90 are employed at company headquarters in Zwolle, Holland, and ten in Freiburg, Germany.
The range of electrical products is broad, including both corded and cordless portable tools, from impact drills to sanders and planers, and through to jigsaws and circular saws. Added to these are stationary tools, welding equipment, air tools and garden tools.
Among the new products introduced this year is a sandblast cabinet, which only requires connecting to a vacuum cleaner to start working. Also new to the programme is the “Precision” circular saw for cutting wood, plastics, tiles, laminate and aluminium, which is compact in design for ease of handling. It has a 350 W motor and comes in a carry case complete with a dust extraction system and four blades.
Ferm also offers new products for the garden. The multi cordless garden tool enables you to clip hedges, trim the edges of lawns and prune trees. Even relatively high places can be reached by means of its telescopic handle, which has a range of 1.60 m. The set includes a hedge clipper, a lawn trimmer and a tree pruner, all accessories that can quickly be changed with the handy click system.
