DIY stores in Italy turned over a total of EUR 2.6 bn in the first half of 2022. This was 0.9 per cent more than in the same period last year. At that time, however, half-year sales had shot up by 16.3 per cent to EUR 2.5 bn compared with 2020, when the coronavirus pandemic was raging. These figures from the market research company GfK were published by the Italian news service diyandgarden.com.
The building materials range accounted for the largest share of sales (16 per cent) and has also grown the most at +18.2 per cent. Sanitary ware, the second largest product group with a share of 15 per cent, increased by just 1 per cent, while gardening, the third largest assortment with a 13 per cent share, has virtually stagnated (-0.1 per cent). The biggest decline, -14.2 per cent, was in the lighting product group. Paints and floor coverings lost
12.5 per cent.
