The subject of measuring is one of the key topics being addressed by both Bosch and Skil. But new cordless tools and sanders also promise to provide DIYers with new opportunities
Developed by Bosch to enable DIYers to measure distances, heights and areas is the laser rangefinder PLR 30. This device is capable of measuring lengths, areas or volumes at the push of a button. Applications for this product include calculating the amount of wallpaper, tiles, paint or carpet required for the job in hand. Just 110 x 66 x 32 mm in size, it is no bigger than a mobile phone and will fit in any pocket.
Also new is the self-levelling, cross-line laser PCL 1. This provides horizontal and vertical markings for the correct height or side alignment when laying tiles, installing mains sockets or hanging up pictures, or for renovation jobs in the kitchen, bathroom or living room.
For working in the garden there is now an electric all-purpose saw from Bosch as well, the PFZ 500 E. “With a 500W power consumption and a stroke length of 23 mm,” Mr Becker confirms, “it can rapidly cut through beams with an edge length up to 15 cm.” There are further new products from Bosch in the categories of dust-free drilling and multi-sanders; for Skil the focus is on cordless tools, sanders and the subject of measuring as well. One example of this is the laser leveller 502 Spider. “It comes complete with seven fixing units, which the Spider simply clicks onto,” is how Gerhard Kobesen, president of Skil Europe B.V., describes this product. Also new to the programme is the Skil 525 Digi, which can be used like the Bosch PLR 30 to calculate the amount of material required for a job.
