The range of LED spots and many other LED lamp shapes with bulbs or casings in real glass is now a highly practical alternative to classic halogen lamps, some of which are no longer permitted to be placed on the market from 1 September according to the European Union. With regard to this, one of today's major trends is LED lamps becoming increasingly similar to their traditional role models, mainly in terms of design, materials, sizes and technical properties such as dimming behaviour.
A further visual highlight are LED filament lamps featuring luminous LED filaments that also do without a heat sink - on the face of it consisting of just a metal base and glass bulb. "LED filament is the strongest-growing segment at the moment, but our matt lamps without heat sinks are also very much in demand," explains Marc Gerster, head of DACH Retail Sales at Ledvance. "This is why, later in the lighting season, we'll be offering new campaign packages of our bestseller models without heat sinks."
Developments in the LED technology sector also create scope for completely new concepts. The latest innovation is lamps marketed under the eponymous motto of "create your scene", offering additional functions. "These allow consumers to very simply set up particular light scenes using inexpensive alternatives and without additional installations," enthuses Gerster.
