Mechanical security complemented by electronical systems

An effective security concept is still based on a mechanical system, which is then supplemented by electronic entry controls, video surveillance and burglar or fire alarms.
In the intruder prevention sector the cylinder lock industry has meanwhile continued to react to new manipulation techniques and processes, making their systems even more robust by means of appropriate blocking mechanisms within the cylinder. Where locking technology is concerned, one of the main aims is to explain the principle of “one key for all doors”.
When it comes to fittings, there seems to be a weakening of what has in the past been an extremely dominant trend: the use of stainless steel as the material that is most often presented. Experts foresee a “comeback of classic materials”, which means an increase in the popularity of fittings made of bronze, for example. Attractive variations are achieved here through special finishes.
Brass has evidently lost none of its significance as a material for fittings, so that there are again many most attractive examples of complete systems where the visual qualities of brass are evident in lines that range from door handles to coat hooks and on to bathroom products.
Electronic security products
Technical developments such as the integration of products into comprehensive solutions and the cross-linkage of the individual services in the one building continue to provide future-oriented solutions. The products involved must be geared to user convenience, safety and service.
One example of new growth areas is the home security market. While this area accounts for over ten per cent in Italy, nearly 20 per cent in the UK and as much as 25 per cent in the USA, sensitivity to security in their own homes is extremely poorly developed among German customers (comparative figure: 0.5 per cent).
Security systems designed for private consumers and small businesses pick up the existing technical developments and link together the advantages of the different product segments: access control, video and alarm surveillance. All the component parts can also be networked – mainly by means of wireless systems.

Many manufacturers offer the possibility of integrating entry control systems with video technology and/or burglar alarms.
