More sales, and even more stores in Japan

Home improvement retailers in Japan were able to record slightly higher growth rates again in 2016. Sales in the industry increased by 0.81 per cent to 3 985 bn JPY. This is according to the annual statistics published by the Japan DIY Industry Association. In 2015 the rate of change was lower, in 2014 it was even negative.
However, just like in recent years, the number of DIY stores continued to grow at a stronger rate in 2016, namely by 1.29 per cent to 4 710 locations. So sales per store have continued to go down.
