The French DIY store group Mr. Bricolage closed the first half of the year 2020 with a clear rise in sales. On the reporting date, the 855 locations (778 at end of 2019) had increased their sales by 4.7 per cent to EUR 1.0559 bn compared to the same period last year. Like-for-like increase was 5.6 per cent.
In France, where the overall industry lay at 8.5 per cent below the previous year's value in the middle of the year according to figures by the Banque de France, the franchise group made sales of EUR 912.0 mio and thus 4.5 per cent more (also like-for-like) than in the first half of the year 2019. Abroad, sales rose by 8.7 per cent (like-for-like: 11.5 percent) to EUR 141.8 mio. The strong increase of 18.5 per cent in Belgium is primarily responsible for this.
The fact that e-commerce sales dropped by 59.1 per cent to EUR 2.1 mio is related, inter alia, with the closure of the Le jardin de Catherine page; it should also be noted that the figure does not include click & collect sales.
During the first half of the year, Mr. Bricolage completed its long-planned intention to split from the originally 65 stores run by the headquarters. Of these, 60 were passed on to other operators, 85 per cent of which to existing members of the franchise group, and five stores were closed.
