“Grand Opening festivities”

Mr. DIY Philippines in a store opening frenzy

27.06.2022

Malaysian Home improvement retailer Mr. DIY is on a store-opening frenzy in the Philippines, with the company going on a campaign of launching up to 18 new outlets over three-day periods in the last three months.

By 3 July, the company will have opened a total of 40 new outlets over three mass opening events dubbed “Grand Opening festivities” which started end-April. The latest event, which will see the opening of 11 new stores nationwide, is scheduled for 1-3 July 2022.

Prior to this, Mr. DIY had announced plans to open in 11 locations between 17 and 19 June 2022, while on 29 April to 1 May 2022, it announced a “national grand opening event” for a total of 18 new branches across the country.

“Shoppers will get more opportunities for great deals and value for their money when they buy home items and gifts at these … new stores,” Mr. DIY Philippines said in one of the announcements posted on its Facebook account.

Before the first “Grand Opening” blitz was staged, Mr. DIY had 226 branches in the Philippines.

News reports quote the company as saying that the move is in line with making a “positive difference in the lives of its valued customers by offering convenience at all its stores nationwide”.

The company also puts customers first “by operating an innovative business that is flexible” in providing an array of products, good quality, and value for money, the media reports further quoted Mr. DIY Philippines as saying.

Mr. DIY Philippines is operated by Bricolage Philippines Inc. and is part of the home improvement retail network that began in Malaysia and has spread around Asia and Europe. Apart from Malaysia and the Philippines, Mr. DIY is also operating in Brunei, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, India, Turkey and Spain.

Mr. DIY owns all its stores and does not venture into franchising. Expanding its store network and growing same-store sales are among of the company's three growth pillars, with the other two being delivering value and keeping costs under control.
