New Metcash boss moves from Massmart

The Australian retail group Metcash is getting a new chief executive. Group CEO Jeff Adams will retire in 2022. His successor will be Doug Jones, currently CEO and senior vice president of South African-based Massmart Wholesale.
Metcash operates in the Australian hardware market through its Independent Hardware Group (IHG), which has a number of distribution channels. The most well-known of these is Mitre 10 (Australia). The group has also had Home Timber & Hardware since 2016, and Total Tools since 2020.
Doug Jones' new employer Massmart is also active in the home improvement segment. Operating in the South African market under the Builders brand, it has four formats, warehouse, express, trade depot and super store as well as an online platform.
