German retailers operate more than 500 stores beyond their national borders

The German operators of DIY stores are currently planning 65 further outlets abroad. At present they have 524 DIY stores (October 2004) outside Germany. It emerges from statistics compiled by the publishing house of Dähne that the majority of these (281) are located in Austria. The second most significant country for foreign expansion is Poland with 39 outlets, followed by the Czech Republic with 38 stores operated by German companies.
