The company offers its product lines under three different brand names: Planto, Lea’s Gardenline and Plantolino. “Planto” is the classic house brand that includes a growing palette of collectors and containers. They are manufactured from extremely tough PP fabric (22 g/m²), which “you would normally only find in the professional field”, according to Friederike Sandt. The fabric is laminated for UV protection, and the collectors feature stabilising rings and handles. The latest product is the QL garden collector – a large-capacity square container that can be quickly folded down into a flat triangle. Bio plant tunnels and fleece products are also available under the Planto brand name.
Plantolino is the children's brand, colorful and sturdy.
“Lea’s Gardenline” is the country-style brand offering gardening and belt bags, gloves and accessories such as kneelers and gardeners’ aprons. New to this programme is a practical picking bag. This can be carried in three different ways: by the handles, or with the help of the long strap, which can be slung over one shoulder or fastened round the hips. The material used for the bags is netting of such robust quality that the fruit or vegetables can be cleaned with water straight after picking and whilst still in the bag.

“Plantoline” is the brand designed specially for children. It includes gardening bags, gloves and accessories. “Of course we put just as much emphasis on durability and safety when it comes to products for little gardeners,” declares Friederike Sandt. The most popular item at present is an apron with a Velco fastening that prevents the child being strangled if he or she should get caught on a branch.
The range of products is being continuously expanded. For instance, children’s garden tools specially designed for Plantolino will go into serial production in 2005.
The company works with six permanent employees at headquarters in Diez, Germany, and freelancers in Britain, the US and the Far East.
Managing director Friederike Sandt sums up the firm’s philosophy as follows: “We work German, i.e. efficiently, expertly and reliably, and operate international, with partners all over the world, who range from the well-known chain to the not-yet-very-big specialist store.”
