Against the background of its experience of 2020, the Spanish DIY sector is seeing elements of production being relocated from China back to Europe. Discussion regarding this has been initiated by a working group of the manufacturers' association AFEB. In some European countries, consumers have appeared preoccupied to a growing extent with the origin of products. "We are facing European nationalism in relation to production and buying," say some members of the association. "Some brands have already pulled their manufacturing out of Asia and moved it to Europe." Another reason is that costs and service times in China are rising, leading to a re-evaluation of supply chains. There is talk of a paradigm shift, which will result in higher prices for consumers also, however.
Despite the current situation, Spanish manufacturers are satisfied on the whole with the results from last year. Sales figures in Germany and France in particular have been excellent.
