The French company Virax specializes in the production of tools for the plumbing, heating, air-conditioning and roofing trades. Its products are exported to over 75 countries, with craftsmen constituting the principal target group. But now DIYers can also benefit from the expertise of the professional sector, because the company is supplying DIY retailers. Virax’s declared aim is to consolidate its market leadership in France and increase its market share in Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Spain, Portugal, Greece and Poland. The company operates subsidiaries in Germany and Italy.
The “Visioval” pipe inspection system is a new feature of the range.
According to Virax, it has been the market leader in pipe handling tools in France since 1920. By 1953 it was represented in 42 countries and in 1981 acquired the Facom Group, which specializes in measuring instruments.
Virax manufactures its tools in a 25 000 m² plant in Epernay. Its range comprises 5 000 items broken down into eight categories: universal/gripping tools, cutting/sawing/drilling, sheet-metal bending, joining/assembly, testing instruments, soldering/insulation/roofing, maintenance and work tables.
To remain competitive, the company invests in the development of new products and introduces ten new products into the market every year.

The new products unveiled this year include impregnated, solvent-free cleaning cloths, which are supplied in a dispenser box containing 80 cloths. They are suitable for cleaning hands and surfaces and will remove grease, lubricant, adhesive, oil, tar, bitumen etc. The cloths have a rough side for tackling stubborn stains, while the other side is soft for removing any residues, leaving the skin feeling soft.
Another new product is the “Visioval” pipe inspection system for conduits with an internal diameter of 25 to 100 mm. The light and compact battery-operated unit is fitted with a waterproof digital camera and features a 3.5 inch colour LC display. The semi-flexible 15 m long glass fibre cable can be pushed even through sharp bends (90 degrees).
