Russia has seriously affected Obi’s sales

With 46 440 employees Obi, market leader in the German DIY trade, made net sales of € 5.57 bn last year. This is a drop of 0.7 per cent compared to the previous year (after adjusting for exchange rate effects +2.7 per cent). "It could have been an even more successful year for Obi," says Karl-Erivan W. Haub, managing and general partner of the parent company Tengelmann, "if sales in Russia hadn't been so strongly affected by the drop in the Ruble and the recession."
At the end of the year the company operated 631 stores in eleven countries, including 353 locations in Germany. According to the company, the market leader has maintained its position here and, compared to industry development, has achieved above-average sales. With the opening of 48 former Baumax locations in Austria (end of 2015) and 14 in Slovakia (start of 2016), Obi has also taken on the role of market leader in these two countries.
