Third quarter

Store closures cause HomePro double-digit decline

02.11.2021

Due to the closure of a part of their stores lasting several weeks, the Thai chain of DIY stores HomePro saw a significant reduction in sales in the third quarter. Compared to the same quarter last year, sales dropped by 12.57 per cent to THB 13.77684 bn (EUR 356 mio). Albeit in September 2021, the government has relaxed the lockdown measure, but the consumer purchasing power has not fully recovered yet as compared to the same period last year, according to the quarterly report. Stores in Malaysia were also affected. Thus, combined sales of the first three quarters to the amount of THB 44.37689 bn (EUR 1.147 bn) still lie at 2.17 per cent over the respective previous year's value.
The lockdown measures have resulted in the total sales decreasing by around 18 to 25 per cent during the temporary store closure period in July and August, according to the company. It stated that at the end of the third quarter, the proportion of the people vaccinated with the first dose/both doses of the vaccine were 46 per cent and 28 per cent respectively, based on total population. The government has set its major goal to have 70 per cent of the total population fully inoculated by the end of the year.
