Saicos Colour, based at Sassenberg in Germany, is still a very young company. It was founded in mid-2002 and regards itself as a specialist in wood coating systems. The know-how of the three-man management team is based on many years of experience in the areas of research and development, and in application engineering for wood processing. The company, as a specialist in oil/wax-based wood treatments and UV-hardening systems, claims to be positioned at the top end of the market in Germany. The products are, however, distributed in other parts of Europe as well.Saicos’s experience gained in the industrial sector has been introduced to the range of products for the DIYer. For wood preservation the company offers waxes and oils as well as glazes for both interior and exterior usage. There is a hard wax oil that is suitable for the surface treatment of wood and cork floors, and for all furniture that has suffered heavy wear and tear. For renovating work the low-odour oil can be used for post-treatment without creating join marks or needing any sanding. The premium hard wax oil dries in no more than three to four hours. Colorwachs, which has also been developed on a natural oil/wax basis, can be used for the natural treatment of all interior wood surfaces. As a rule, one coat is enough for a silk lustre finish. The choice of colours ranges from opaque or transparent white to a variety of natural brown wood shades. The Colorwachs products are compatible with industrially coated wood surfaces, i.e. they can be used for the supplementary treatment of skirting boards and other wood surfaces. For exterior wood finishes Saicos also makes use of natural raw materials, which penetrate deep into the timber and protect the surfaces against weathering influences, moisture and pollution. One of the products in this range is the company’s silk lustre, semi-transparent wood glaze, which is available in a choice of natural wood shades along with white and other colours. The Saicos Klarlasur is a colourless oil paint for exterior woodwork that is intended to retain the natural look. It smooths the surface of the wood, renders it water and dirt repellent, non-slip and resistant to scratching and other signs of wear and tear. The company’s special wood oil is suitable for use as a transparent preservation and care product for garden furniture and wooden decks, etc., and is available in different versions. The impregnating wood preservative acts to prevent rot, blue stain and wood-destroying insects. It can be used in combination with all common types of size and window putty (except products containing silicone). The company’s Haus & Garten paint offers an opaque, tinted special wood coating that produces a silk lustre finish sufficient to cover the original wood colour and the grain whilst still allowing the structure of the wood to remain visible. This paint can be had in a great selection of shades both traditional and modern. It is especially suitable for all exterior wood on houses and in gardens, as well as for pressure-treated wood and for the restoration of old, weathered coatings. Care products also have a permanent place in this programme that covers all the different aspects of wood. The offer includes a care wax, which cleans and maintains at the same time, as well as a floor-care product to be added to the cleaning water. Added to this is a brush cleaner for cleaning tools and for use as a thinner for paint that has become too thick.
