Werth-Holz has positioned itself as a specialist producer of wood for the garden since it was founded in 1977.
Production is carried out in Germany and, since 1992, in Poland as well. Whereas most of the capital-intensive, highly automated production processes are carried out in Finnentrop, the major part of the range of timber for the garden is hand-produced at the plant in Pszczew. A second location in the neighbouring town of Jablonka came into operation this spring. This produces sawn timber, and consequently supplies the raw material for the manufacturing process. Rainer Klee, managing partner, is pleased with this investment, since operating the sawmill means that Werth-Holz has managed to achieve a pricing edge of around 25 per cent. But he also emphasises that the company would have no chance of survival without the plants in Poland, and that “the 150 jobs in Germany are only safeguarded by our production in Poland”.
Approximately 55 000 m3 of timber are prepared annually at the facilities in Poland and further processed in Pszczew. The number of employees amounts to 330 in the peak season. In addition to the production side, part of the distribution to several European countries is controlled from Pszczew as well. Each year around 1 500 HGVs leave the works, transporting a total of about 2 000 different timber products worth over € 12 mio.
The greater part of the range is produced in Pszczew, Poland, mainly by hand.
