How many tags will I really need for my plants? And what if I need to change something on them in the meantime? Production operations and garden centres have to plan the printing of tags, which are suitable for outdoors, long in advance - that's if they don't have their own printer with which they will be able to quickly print even the smallest run in future.
Such a device, now also for the European market, was presented by the US manufacturer Primera Technology at the international plant fair IPM in Essen at the start of the year. The company sees itself as a worldwide leading manufacturer of speciality printers. It has its headquarters in Plymouth, Minnesota.
The GP3000 is an on-demand, full-colour tag press, which Primera has developed specifically for the horticulture industry. The machine prints both sides of pre die-cut stake tags, hang tags, bench cards and many other types of tags and signage. A built-in cutter perfectly trims the edges of the printed output to deliver full-bleed tags. An innovative, patent-pending, digital creasing mechanism for creating perfect stick-in tags is also included. The resulting tags are then neatly dispensed, stacked and ready for use - no tearing apart of the tags required.
This means that print runs are possible from just a few to several thousand pieces. Therefore, production nurseries, tree nurseries and garden centres no longer have to take long lead times and also waiting times into account, and at the same time, the problem of producing and then having to throw away too many tags is solved.

The print resolution is 1200 x 4800 dpi. So the machine, according to the provider, prints crystal-clear photos and graphics in full colour. The pictures and graphics as well as texts and therefore also logos and prices can be changed on the tags at any time. In addition to the printer driver, the software package also contains Primera's own program PTHort, which processes photos and texts from a database and formats them for various tag templates.
Primera has paid special attention to the durability of the printed tags. Outdoor tests of one year show no noticeable degradation from UV, water and scratching.
