Bunnings announces 100 per cent renewable energy by 2025

The Australian DIY store chain Bunnings has announced plans to source 100 per cent renewable electricity by 2025, to help achieve its recently announced targets of net zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030. Managing director Mike Schneider said the business, which has more than 370 sites around Australia and New Zealand, recognised it had an important part to play in reducing carbon emissions and addressing climate change.
Currently there are over 150 sites in the Bunnings network using LED lighting, which reduces electricity consumption by more than 20 per cent, according to the company. It now also has over 70 solar photovoltaic (PV) systems across the network, covering over 100 000 m² of roof space and generating up to 30 per cent of a store's needs. Over the coming year, Bunnings has plans to build another 20 new solar PV systems and upgrade the capacity on ten existing systems in its network.
