Since 1991 the CIHS has been organised by the China National Hardware Association (CNHA), the largest industrial association for the hardware sector in China. Last year’s event saw the participation of almost 600 exhibitors occupying an area in excess of 20 000 m². Just under 30 000 visitors were recorded during the three days of the fair.
This year’s fair is being restructured. Practical World Asia, like its counterpart in Germany, will be divided into the World of Tools (tools and workshop fittings), the World of Security (locks and fittings), and the World of Home Improvement/DIY (building materials and DIY products). Many of the exhibitors from Germany, India, Taiwan and the USA will participate on group stands.
The event will occupy Halls 1 to 3 of the Shanghai International Exhibition Center, where a gross exhibition area of around 35 000 m² is available. More than 30 000 visitors from the region are expected at this first trade fair alliance.
30 000 visitors are expected to attend the first Practical World Asia.
The Chinese market, which boasts a population in excess of 1.2 bn and more than 100 cities with over a million inhabitants, holds out tremendous potential. Added to this is the fact that individuals have for the last three years been able to purchase private property. According to estimates, demand in the building ma-terials and hardware sectors is expected to more than double over the next ten years. Particularly strong growth is forecast for the house-building sector as a result of the privatisation of the housing market. This trend will be further boosted by the tenth five-year plan (2001 to 2005), which targets the promotion of private house-building and will consequently have a positive influence on the demand for DIY products.
