Homeowners prefer do-it-yourself

To realise major home improvement projects, homeowners in the USA prefer do-it-yourself. Asked by HIRI (Home Improvement Research Institute), 68 per cent of respondents said they are completing projects themselves. Seven per cent split their projects into DIY und hired professionals, among 11 per cent the method is to buy-it-yourself and hire professionals. Completely handing over their projects to a pro is how 15 per cent make their home improvements.
The decision to take on a home improvement project over hiring a professional often depends on the overall cost of hiring a pro, with 65 per cent of respondents reporting they chose the DIY route in order to save money. On the other hand, professionals are most often utilised when projects require either a specific skill set or are too large or complicated to do on their own.
Projects which homeowners carry out themselves are mainly landscape/garden (90 per cent), interior painting (85 per cent) and garage improvement (81 per cent).
