In the product group garden furnishings and decoration, the Netherlands are the most active in foreign trade compared to other countries in Europe.  This is shown by import and export quotas of 281 and 480 per cent respectively.  In this connection, the domestic market supply of this comparatively small nation is just € 175 mio. With a production output of € 83 mio, the import / export figures of € 492 mio and € 400 mio respectively mean that almost three times and five times as much crosses the country's borders.
The opposite of this is Italy, the most self-sufficient nation with respect to garden furnishings with a domestic market supply of € 955 mio and an above-average production quota of 102.9 per cent.
With a domestic market supply of € 854 mio, Germany lies behind Italy in this respect. However both German imports to the value of € 1.005 bn as well as exports for € 756 mio are the respective peak values in Europe.
In terms of the EU, the domestic market supply in 2015 amounted to € 4.7 bn whereby goods worth € 4.9 bn were imported and € 3.4 bn exported.  EU internal production encompasses garden furnishings and decoration for € 3.2 bn.
These figures originate from research with which IFH Retail Consultants, the institute for retail research, was commissioned by Messe Frankfurt in the run-up to the Tendence trade fair.
