Even though, or may even because there is such a lot happening in the lighting market, no annual global trade fair has managed to established itself in this sector. The Light + Building in Frankfurt am Main (Germany) is uncontested in bringing the in-ternational industry together, however it only takes place every two years. Most recently around 216 000 trade visitors from 160 countries attended in March 2016. They found out about trends and innovations in the lighting industry from 2 589 exhibitors who had come from 55 countries.
In the alternate years, it is mainly two events in Europe which cover the industry's need for information: the Euroluce, as a segment in the international furniture trade fair in Milan (Italy, Salone Internazionale del Mobile) and the Lichtwoche Sauerland in Germany.
In Milan, in April last year, 485 exhibitors were represented at the 28th International Lighting Exhibition Euroluce. The range of products included devices for outdoor, indoor and industrial lighting to lighting for shows and events, hospital lighting and special use lighting, lighting systems, light sources and lighting application software.
However the Euroluce doesn't just see itself as the meeting place and business venue par excellence, but also as the most avant-garde trade fair in the field of eco-sustainability and energy saving in both the decorative and the lighting technology sectors. In total more than 300 000 visitors attend the Milan furniture trade fair every year.
In recent years Light + Building, the lighting week in Sauerland at the start of March, has also established itself in the alternate years. Included in its name is Sauerland, a region in Germany to the east of the Ruhr area, which is traditionally the heart of the German lighting industry.
While mainly household lighting manufacturers participated in the first Lichtwoche Sauerland trade fair in 2005 (partly with an outdoor lighting range), businesses which work with technical lighting or lamps have since started to attend - and are expressly welcomed.
Not only are the product categories continuing to expand, but the exhibitors' catchment area too. The trade fair now has an international shine to it, with suppliers, for example, from the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Austria and Denmark also…
