This year’s event expects to host about 3 700 suppliers from 59 countries, around 70 per cent of them from abroad. Dominant among the east Asian turnout are China (453 companies), Taiwan (410) and Hong Kong (65). Within the EU states Italy is providing a particularly high contingent of 435 companies. This is followed by France (159 firms), Spain (124), Britain (115 firms) and the Netherlands (104). Over and above this, a total of 32 national export-promoting organisations from 20 countries are offering 69 group stands altogether.
It is intended to make use of the entire exhibition space of 286 000 m2. Though it must be said that the majority of well-known manufacturers of plumbing supplies will not be represented at DIY’TEC 2002: these exhibitors will concentrate on appearing at the fair in 2003 in conformance with the new, category-oriented structure. Nevertheless, Hall 4 at Köln-Messe will still be kept exclusively for the exhibitors of sanitaryware.
Last year Cologne recorded the attendance of 87 000 visitors, 45 per cent of them from 123 countries.
The multi-trade show
Around 1 900 companies are offering their products and services in Halls 6 to 11 and 14 on an area of 124 000 m2 within the World Tools Centre. The suppliers are presenting hand, power and machine tools, and even workshop fittings. The latter is newly situated in Hall 11.2.
Revealed to visitors on three levels and an area of 50 000 m2 in Hall 13 is the world’s production of security systems, locks and fittings. The approximately 600 suppliers are presenting locks and fittings for the construction and furniture industries, as well as credible and innovative solutions provided by electronically operated security systems.
DIY’TEC, the Builders’ and DIY Supplies Trade Fair, with its exhibition area of 112 000 m2 spread over Halls 1 to 5, 11 and 12, forms the third axis of the multi-trade show. There around 1 200 companies will present a comprehensive spectrum of products with the keynote categories of DIY tools, fastenings, plumbing and electrical installation materials, timber components, flat-pack furniture, chemical products and paints.
