The German electronics brand Blaupunkt is set to launch a brand-new range of insect killers focusing on efficient control of insects and trendy design. The new range comprises seven different insect killers, which each use one of two different methods to eliminate insects: electrocution or dehydration.
Electrocution uses a 4 000 V voltage grid and the insects are drawn to the device by a UV light. As soon as they make contact with the grid, they are electrocuted and killed, falling into the removable collecting tray below. Devices that dehydrate the insects are equipped with a fan. Similarly, the insects are drawn to the device by a UV light and once they have been drawn close enough to the device, they are sucked in by the fan and into the collecting tray, from which they are unable to escape.
Depending on the application and above all the desired range, both technologies offer efficient management. Ranges of between 30 and 50 m² are covered by appliances that work silently with a fan and are operated via a USB port. One device that also features a timer has a range of 60 m². In automatic mode this switches on as darkness falls. The user can also choose between normal and silent mode.

The LED insect killers boast ranges of 150 to 250 m² and are fitted with a high-voltage grid. According to the supplier, these devices are especially power-efficient thanks to LED technology. The device reflects the light for increased attraction rate. These models with a metal housing can be wall-mounted or used as standing units.

Blaupunkt insect killers will be distributed exclusively through Velleman NV, a major European wholesaler of electronics and DIY products. The Belgian company distributes more than 18 000 products around the globe.
